Whitsöndagar

Basically all the backpackers on the east coast of Australia do the same kind of trip, but they either go from the north too the south or from the south to the north, thats the only difference. So when I got to Arlie beach where I was going to have my last Australian Adventure I met people who I’d met previously in Byron Bay, Noosa or on Fraser Island. Which is quite fun but you feel a bit like your being herded around Australia like a bunch of sheep. Still I can see why all the backpackers go to these places, because they are beautiful.

So Arlie Beach, it’s quite a boring town, doesn’t even have a record store, I even asked around. It’s full of travel agents and hostels, but thats probably because it’s only there to get the tourists out on the boats that go around the Whitsundays. And that’s how it also was for me. So I checked in with my sailing company and the day after I headed off on the 60′ sailing yatch or whatever they call it called the Freight Train. My fellow passengers where 12 americans from Wisconsin, to sisters from England and a girl from Austria. I was a bit worried about all the americans at the start but they turned out to be a nice bunch, a bit loud but nice. 

But enough about them, the Whitsundays where amazing! I’ve never seen anything so beautiful, well I might have but at that time it didn’t seem like it. Sitting there on the boat dangling your legs of the side in the sunshine or scuba diving for the first time in my life. And that was an experiance, swimming around under water in that surrounding and all you hear is your own breathing, like Darth Vader under water. Breath in then bubbli bubbli bubbli out, very meditative. Saw a big grooper that was as big as myself if not bigger, and it had lips like that singer guy from Aerosmith. Then I also did some normal snorkeling as well on the second day, spent more time under water then at the surface. Just popped up for a breath of air every now and then, it was that amazing like swimming in an aquarium.
